ACAR (Aged Care Approvals Round) Applications

The Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) has opened the 2011 ACAR round on 18 Jun 2011 {AccXite news release). While the formats of the application forms are similar to previous years, there are more questions added to the financial section to ensure that the applicants can provide a viable operation.

The 2010 ACAR results showed that providers from Victoria have oversubscribed for beds while Queensland and New South Wales were under subscribed. It meant most of the applications received only the minimum number of applied beds in Victoria. As we know, with the Aged Care industry, economies of scale play an important role in keeping the costs down. Therefore to survive and thrive aged care providers need the maximum number of beds possible. It follows that ACAR results will make or break a facility's operation.

Successful ACAR bid requires a comprehensive, achievable, realistic and accurate application. While format and information disclosure requirements of ACAR application forms have changed over the years, the two parts, the assessors focus on care aspect and financial aspect has not changed.

Financial modelling is an important part of ACAR as the DoHA wants to ensure the financial viability of the applicants. Every year many applications are turned down because the applicants did not give proper considerations for financial aspects of the application. Even the application form acknowledges the complexity of the information required by advising potential applicants to seek professional help.

Over the years, by successfully preparing ACAR applications, AccXite has created a framework for ACAR applications. We have developed the framework to ensure that the financial information is as accurate as possible and at the same time as realistic as possible. Instead of using generic financial models, we use aged care specific financial models that will give you the tick of approval.
